    Hello ladies!

    It has been a long time since I've been to this Forum! How is everyone doing?

    Just a quick update on dd;
    The end of the school year review from her GT teacher was fantastic. She received excellent marks in all of the areas they are working on. Her teacher said she is accelerating at a quick pace, surpassing the rest of the kids in the class. Next year will be far more challenging and I think dd is really looking forward to it. Oh, and on a side note; the school has assessments that they do for all students beginning in 3rd grade but give them a practice test to get used to (on the computer) at the end of 2nd. They're expected to only know half the material. Dd was so high on the reading that she hit the ceiling! Her teacher told me that her overall score was the highest a 2nd grader has ever gotten! smile (proud mommy moment).

    We're enjoying the summer and just trying to relax a bit. I just wanted to come say hello to everyone! Please update me on how you are all doing!

    Hugs

    Good to see you mom2la!

    We are enjoying this summer as well! Both girls are on swim team which entails swimming everyday! Found a great learning place that allows them to work at their level twice a week for about an hour.
    Things are laid back and very fun, presently!!!
    Neither of the girls are looking forward to school starting in about a month!!!!!!!

    Congratulations, M2LA! Sounds like not only is your DD doing well, but that you have an attentive and supportive team.

    I don't know if the assessments you noted are what we call "benchmark tests" or may be different. When DS9 was 6 his teacher told me he maxed the benchmark tests at the beginning of the year. I was very pleased, but then starting questioning it. If he maxed it at the beginning of the year, where was there to go from there? I insisted they adminster the next grade benchmark test until he did not reach a ceiling. If our kids are going to be subjected to testing for bureaucratic reasons, we need to make sure it's worthwhile for our kids, too. We used it to justify a skip (even though he came close to maxing the next grade benchmarks at the beginning of the year, we decided on one skip).
