My gifted 8 year old loves reading...has read all the Harry Potter books, about 2/3 of the new (2015/2016) Battle of the Books books, and a couple of the middle school Battle of the Books books.

He loves reading but seldom reads non-fiction books.

I would like to get him some books to learn information, learn how things work, learn what makes the world go, etc.

Can anyone recommend some non-fiction books along these lines?

I appreciate any and all help.

Thank you for the link. I looked through most of the list before and it seemed like most of the recommendations were for fiction books, but I'll take a closer look at it.

There are a lot of great DK books, Horrible Histories are fun, you could also try fictionalised stories based in history like The Silver Sword, I am David. You get the idea. My DD loved Ripley's and Guiness Book of Records. Weird facts but facts nonetheless! I actually learnt a lot about the world from fiction stories so it's not a bad thing. You could try stories from other cultures or set in foreign lands so that he is learning without knowing it.
