Hi --this is my first ime. I have a 7 yr old son who is way ahead of his class. We found EPGY on web and have arranged for the school to let him do program 20 min-3x weekly. After 3 weeks he has completed 2nd grade EPGY. He also reads a "chapter" book in about 30 min with full comprehension so I know he is also not challenged there. On top of all this we are trying to figure out if he has ADHD or just gifted. Would love to hear about others experiences with EPGY, other supplemental programs,etc...Don't think grade-skipping would work as he is behind socially and also 1 grade is going to challenge him either. Any ideas???

    Welcome bbb, ((big smile))

Some kids need multi grade skips to get what they need. Mild-Moderated ADHD can actually be treated by appropriate academic challenge - not that I'm saying your child does or doesn't actually have ADHD.

It's terrific that the school is allowing him to do EPGY during school. I would look for opportunities for your son to interact socially with boys 1,2, 3 and 4 years older and observe how things go.

Will the school actually test him? It would be interesting to find out his reading level, achievment test scores and IQ scores, it you don't already have them. Request them in writing.

What books have you read so far re: gifted?

What is he like at home?

I'm starting to think that underage 10, many gifted kids shouldn't have to worry about social skills, and just be allowed to drink as deeply as possible of their intellectual development, then, as puberty hits, there is some energy availible for figuring out "other people." ((Sure, you teach politeness, but if I could go back and do it again, I'd leave it at that.))
