LaTexican posted about this on another thread and I thought it deserved its own. From the NAGC press release:
    http://www.nagc.org/uploadedFiles/A...GC%20-%20TALENT%20National%20Release.pdf
    Quote
The National Association for Gifted Children applauds the introduction of bipartisan legislation to end the longstanding neglect of high-achieving and high-potential students in the U.S., a neglect that is leaving the nation less competitive against global rivals and ill prepared for the future.

The legislation, known as the TALENT (To Aid Gifted and High-Ability Learners by Empowering the
Nation's Teachers) Act, will require states and local districts to include gifted and talented and high potential
students in their plans for using federal funding, require states to report on the performance of
gifted students on their annual state report cards and help better prepare teachers to work with this
    special-needs population.
The NAGC has a list of all the Members of Congress so you can urge them to support this much-needed bill:

This sounds good. Does anyone have any reservations about this?

The only reservation I have is that the separate reporting requirement may lead to even more under-identification and denial of gifted services.

"In addition to ensuring all high-ability students are rightly identified, TALENT seeks to make sure these students receive the necessary services and support from appropriately trained school personnel including principals, teachers and counselors by supporting the development of best practice strategies and getting them into the hands of educators through dissemination efforts and professional development grants. It will also collect appropriate data on high-ability students to enable policymakers and educators to make informed decisions."
