I feel like I've been beating my head against the wall of my son's school all year long, just to get them to allow him to challenge HIMSELF, much less get an actual teacher to challenge him. It really bothered me when HE started complaining that he was bored in class with no prompting from me. (I knew he was bored, but didn't say anything to him because I didn't want to plant ideas in his head). Anyway, the teacher has a bunch of books for kids to read when they are done with their work. Andrew read all of them and had nothing more to read, but is not supposed to bring his own books to school for fear of losing or damaging them. I had a meeting with the teacher and principal and actually gave them a signed note from me, saying that the school would not be responsible if something happened to Andrew's books. He's been taking Harry Potter to school all this week and couldn't be happier. Yippee!
Now if I could find a way to do something about the math curriculum, I would feel much better.
