Our DS11mo is a handful to say the least. He loves books, TVs, computers, anything that moves.

One of his favorite "toys" is roomba (the robotic vacuum cleaner). When he sees the roomba out cleaning, his whole body tenses up. We try to calm him down to no avail. In fact, every time he sees something he loves, his whole body tenses up.

Is that normal? Life is stressful as it is, and we were hoping DS can be a little mellower if possible.

DD went through that. I think I might have mentioned in a post here awhile back? I can't quite remember... but she went through a phase where she would get really scared of things that made sharp jerky movements. It came at about the same time the separation anxiety started.

The thing that worked best for her was to "introduce" her to the scary object. I'd sit her in my lap, talk to her calmly and say that the object wasn't going to hurt her. I'd hold on to her and touch the object to show her that it was ok. Eventually she'd be able to do the same and get over her fear. She seems to have grown out of it now...

My DS 13 months gets so worked up that he vibrates when he sees something that interests him. His new favorite things are clocks and calculators. He loves to point out letters on signs usually
complete with phonetic sounds, he had quite a crowd gathered at Best Buy yesterday when he spelled out Blue Ray. His enthusiasm borders on being a little frightening. I guess intensity goes
along with the territory. Quite certain he would really vibrate
for a roomba.

I don't know, I have a DD3 who, for no reason we can think of, is terrified of dogs and screams her head off whenever she sees one. Even chihuahuas and dachshunds and boston terriers, which our various neighbors have. One time she screamed when we went to the neighbor's, and I had to hold her--she got bored with that, got down, played with the dogs, and then went into another room. When she came back out and the dogs ran over to her again, she screamed again!

After re-reading your post, I realized that you were saying your son tenses up because he likes the object and not because he's afraid (that's what happens when you're skimming really quick because DD is climbing all over you!).

Anyways, I'm not sure if it's the same thing but DD does do this sort of spastic thing where her hold body tenses and she kind of makes this crazy face. From talking to other friends with kids this is pretty common and they normally do it when they are excited. We've always found it really cute and she'll normally do it on command. wink
