Hello, Just wanted to alert this community to a recent GT placement controversy in Montgomery County, MD. A 9 year old child who had completed 5th grade as a homeschooler enrolled in middle school, and was subsequently denied admission following pressure from central office officials. Two days later the principal asserted her authority and the child has been admitted.

You can read about this important victory in Montgomery County here: http://themorechild.com/2009/09/03/news-child-enrolls-in-mcps-middle-school/

If you're so moved, please write MPCS to tell them your story of grade acceleration and why this option is important.

I think it's partly my hormones, but I needed a box of tissues after that one. What a great thing for Kumar's daughter and gifted children/better education as a whole!!!!

Wow! That is some victory in Montgomery County. I sent a "kudos" note as requested in the blog. -- By the way, do you think Montgomery County relies too heavily on the magnet schools to meet the needs of the gifted?
