    Hello
I am new here and just wanted some input on what to bring. My DS9 was evaluated for gifted here in FL. I was sent a meeting participation form for May 26. I am meeting with his teacher, ese teacher,LEA represenative, evaluation specialist and psyc. I really don't know what to think. He took the test a month ago. So...I am not sure if he did well enough or what. Is there anything I should expect as well as bring alone information for him surporting his talents.

I too am in FL. My experience and that of friends I know in our district at least is that if all those people are going to be at the meeting, your child qualified for the program. If your child does qualify for the gifted program, they would go over what services are available, when they would start for your child, how often and how the services are provided and when you will meet again to review the plan.
Our schools in our district are really cut and dry as far as being admitted to the gifted program. They only look at test scores so unless you have outside test scores I probably wouldn't bring anything to the initial meeting, but rather see what they offer and get the results of the testing. Good luck!

Thank you so so much. I feel much better now. By the way where are you located? I'm in Palatka FL about an hour in a half from Jacksonville.

Hi, I just wanted to say welcome. I don't have much advice about what to take to the meeting; but if you think that anything else might be useful once you are in the meeting (i.e. things he has done at home on his own etc.) you can always say that you will drop it off for them. smile

I know Palatka. I was in the Army Reserve and used to spend many weekends there. I lived in Jacksonville. We are now in Broward County, way down South.

OK! Broward County, that's not far. I am so nervous about the meeting DorothyS. Can't wait to go and get it over with. lol,lol
I hope you are right about all those people that are going to be there. It would be kind of funny having all of them there to tell me he didn't pass.
Anyway...I will keep the faith and left you guys know what happens.

Hi I'm in FL too. I agree that you don't need to bring anything to the meeting -- except your sense of humor.
In our SD IQ score is only part of it. They also consult a checklist of characteristics of the gifted (here they have a scale from 1 to 5 on the characteristics and it has to add up to a minimum), teacher's recommendation, SAT10 scores, grades and portfolio. They will tell you what services your son qualifies for based on the criteria (pullout gifted, fulltime gifted, etc.).
The team from the school will also be involved in creating your son's EP and that could take place at the meeting.
The psychologist who administered the test will prob be present and that's a good opportunity for you to ask questions.
Make sure you get copies of the IQ test, the EP and any other evaluations they used.
I know the waiting can be nerve-racking! Let us know how it goes.

It's so frustrating to think they wouldn't just say - he's qualified and this meeting is to discuss the options. Yikes! Our school system is pretty good here, but even they tend to send out lots of fliers and notes wihtout essential information, such as the date of an event they are planning, etc. (!)

I just wish someone would proofread these missives from the parent perspective before they let fly to the whole county! wink

ps, good luck!! hope there are some good options.
