    Hello all,
I hope everyone is doing well.

DS16 with ADD attends a small private in which currently kids are on a hybrid schedule. His cohort is home 2 days and in class 2 days. He is not taking well to zoom classes. Although he has a previous record of academic success in HS and is on medication, he is having an extremely difficult time focusing on the zoom lessons and applying what he is learning especially in pre-Calc honors. He does have a heavy load of classes but his grades are suffering and are down a great deal from last year.

I'm considering asking his private school if he can have an accommodation to be on campus full time rather than hybrid. I'm hesitating because I don't know if it's "fair". He does have typing and extra time accommodations and I don't want to push for something to address a challenge that all kids who are not able to be on campus as much as they would like are facing.
Anyone think about this or ask for this accommodation?
    Thank you.

This is a standard accommodation that public schools are using for "high needs" students, which includes students who are English learners, those with disabilities, those without reliable access to internet, and a few others on a case-by-case basis. In our building, we are currently in all remote, with a handful of high needs students (mostly El and those with disabilities) in-person fulltime.

In short, this is a perfectly reasonable accommodation that is being used nation-wide with many students with his description. And I'm sure his teachers have noticed the dramatic decline in his grades, so the school may be more open to this than you expect.

    Thank you kindly aeh.
I appreciate your input very much.
Upon further discussion with DS, not only is he having a difficult time absorbing via the online lectures but the inconsistency of being in school 2 days out of 5 is apparently also disruptive to any consistency he is able to build with his learning for his most difficult classes which are pre-calc honors and AP Physics.
The school is not receptive thus far to my request as it claims it will interfere with their cohort placement and contact-tracing procedures. I will keep working at it and with DS to try to help him find other supports that will enable him to comprehend and apply the material.
Again, many thanks for the information.
