    Hello everyone,

I need help to get specific information about Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children - Fourth Edition (WISC-IV).

Does the test category for 0-5 and 6-11 are the same? Both include
    Verbal Comprehension
    Perceptual Reasoning
    General Ability Index (GAI)
    Full Scale

My son is not 6 yet, but according to the details about the test listed here: https://www.davidsongifted.org/Young-Scholars/How-to-Apply/Qualification-Criteria, it include those four catogeries.

If I get my son tested now, will he be tested with those four categories?

    Thanks in advance.

The current tests are the WISC-V (fifth edition, not fourth edition), for age 6-16, and WPPSI-IV for age 2-6 (not recommended for suspected GT six-year-olds).

The WISC-V has five primary indices, of which you may only see two, depending on whether the examiner gives just the subtests for the FSIQ and GAI, or the subtests for the primary indices also:

    Verbal Comprehension
Visual Spatial (only with additional subtests)
    Fluid Reasoning
Working Memory (only with additional subtests)
Processing Speed (only with additional subtests)

The WPPSI-IV has a younger and an older version, and is similar in structure to the WISC-V at the the upper level (which is where it sounds like your son would fall), though the specific tasks are different.

Except in rare circumstances, I would not generally recommend the WISC-IV any more, as it is quite old, with norms that are several years out of date.
