I just received my child's test reports from our school district (he took CoGAT and Iowa for gifted identification). He did well and did qualify for our district's gifted accelerated program, but the CogAT score report is blank in the column for Standard Age Score. It has everything else--stanines, percentiles for both age and grade, raw score info--but is missing the SAS. I have no idea why they'd provide all the other information but no true score, that is strange to me. Is there any way for me to derive the SAS on my own from this information, or would I need a professional to do it? I did a little research on my own and it seems I need access to certain tables of information that I do not have.

You can convert percentiles to SAS fairly easily. The SAS has a mean of 100, and a standard deviation of 16. Find a percentile to standard score chart with a column for SD = 16, and you can find the SAS. Here's the first one that came up when I googled:

Because of the limited significant figures on your percentile score, you may obtain a range of SAS scores, rather than a single score.

Have you tried calling the school to request it? I had to do that for one of mine. They just read them to me over the phone; I didn't need an official report but we desired to know more than just 99th percentile, and they did have full data visible on their end.

I may contact our district GT office; I had to do that for my older child when he took CogAT and the district did hand-scoring only. They wouldn't provide an actual score report, but did give me information in bits and pieces. In my younger child's case, though, the testing was district-wide (annual 3rd grade testing for gifted programming) so they did at least provide formal score reports. They were just missing the actual score, which is so odd to me. They'll provide all the raw score data, and percentiles, but the SAS field is mysteriously blank. His age percentile was 98th, and grade 99th, but I believe the SAS is based on age percentile. I have found a chart online that seems to indicate a range of a few points for 98th. In your case though, if age percentile is 99th, I'd have definitely pushed to know more as well, because it seems 99th can be a much greater range.
