This post is a spin-off from a post on the thread Wasting money teaching children what they know. While the graph depicting Educational Attainment in each school district in the U.S. does not accurately align median incomes (there are occurrences of lesser incomes being charted to the right of higher incomes), the overall depiction is interesting.

Of greatest interest to me are the districts which are outliers. For example, Steubenville City, Ohio, depicted as 1.1 grade levels above, with a relatively low median income of $19K would be a positive example. What enables these children to achieve higher than the norm?

On the flip side, Liberty Elementary school district in California is depicted as performing 1.0 grade levels below, with a relatively high median income of $122K.

Some may say that by studying outliers, much could be learned about factors other than income which are influencing academic performance. smile
