Has anyone else ever found that their child sometimes blows them away with a dramatic seemingly overnight change?

We just had a mind-blowing weekend with DS6. We went canoe camping this weekend and DS6 did the following:

    - Happily canoed all the way to our campsite
    - Insisted on kayaking all the way back (with his kayak tied to the canoe)
    - Jumped off a 10 foot cliff into the lake about 25 times
    - Swam back to our campsite from the jumping rock (wearing his lifejacket)
    - Made us promise we'd come back to this place
    - Asked if he and DS4 could sleep in their own tent next time

This is the boy who was so anxious about the outdoors last year that he refused to get in a canoe and refused to go hiking for fear of bears and getting lost. This time, he was joking about setting a trap for a bear!!! laugh

Who is this new child and what has he done with our son?? He had made small gradual progress over the past year, but this has just blown us away.

In any case, we just spent the entire weekend grinning from ear to ear. smile
