This coming Fall both DD's will attend middle school. I have acquired much advice here for younger DD (ADHD inattentive type) and wish to have her 504 re-written so it addresses middle school situations such as multiple teachers, need for better organizational skills, etc. I met with the AG teacher last week, and she stated that I could ask for a new meeting come August when the staff goes back to work. I wonder if that is too late? I seem to remember reading here that schools have a certain time frame for scheduling these meetings. Can one go to the school district 504 specialist to get it put on a calendar? I just don't want to wait until weeks into the semester to have this wrapped up.

My experience is that the school never wanted to talk with me until at least a few weeks in. You can certainly try to go to the school 504 specialist, but at least in my school district they are on on vacation until August or about 2 weeks before school begins. And then the psychologists/counselors are very busy.

The other advantage to waiting a few weeks is you may have a better handle on what changes are in fact needed. And the new teachers can come to the meeting, and they may know better what accommodations would be most helpful.

    Good Luck.

ITA with Bluemagic and spaghetti. Their comments accord with our experience.
