I was doing a serious tap dance myself, Kriston! I was just about to send in a post thanking Squirt for stating what I didn't feel qualified to state. But, of course, you posted it before me, ye speed responder.

We had some of the same with DS15, thearpy has helped. Spending time with him also helped. DW went on walks with him in the erly evening. He opened up more. Also we did not try to solve everything, just listing without judgement helped some. Also having him learn what to focus on. All they see is the bad and how it affects them. they become very self focused. Getting him to focus on others, and helping others. Getting him ouside himself helped. Having him see the good things in his life helped. There was no one thing that worked, and at times things are better or worse. Over the long run things have improved a lot.

Would be interested in helping out with the political race? Does he have a blog were he can share his deep feeling and great writing?
I would suggest also doing some career exploration, as a giant dream may get him through an unappealing 'now.'

    Boarding school?
    Early college?
    Homeschool?
online tutoring from something like 'VistaTutoring' - so he can follow his interests afterschool?

Keep posting - you are doing great!
