I'm discouraged. Just got a notice from my son's writing tutor that she won't be able to continue with him in January. I spent weeks trying to find the perfect person back in September, after the educational therapist I found last May told us she couldn't continue. I understand but I'll still very disappointed. In September I specifically said I was looking for someone who could work with him for at least a year, but this woman's circumstances have changed. I'm frustrated and just need somewhere to vent. This woman was really working out well and she really connected with my son. My son can very shy and hard to warm up to. In addition what he needs help with, the content creation, is tricky. I was feeling that she was better than the 'professional' I had hired last spring.

It just feels like with this kid I just can't win.

Aww. I'm sorry. Not much of a holiday gift for you, that's for certain. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you find another tutor that works every bit as well as this one has. smile

While on the surface it sounds like a setback, taking a careful inventory may show that you are ahead of where you were last fall as you now have a developed interview process, screening questions, and a potential source for tutors.

Possibly your son has a list of gains from this experience as well, which he can take into the future. For example, the post suggests he was able to develop an open, trusting working relationship with the tutor. Additionally, the experience of having a setback and overcoming it may provide good reflection for content.

Looked at from a distance, this may be seen as a positive trajectory: the current tutor was better than the first... the next one could be stellar.

    Hang in there.

Thanks, it stings less a few days later. His English teacher is also out on maternity leave, knew that was going to happen. But we had just gotten the accommodations set up and it's another teacher to train.
