I'm homeschooling DS9, but DD7 has been going to the local public school. They are such different kids that I'm not sure we'd ever find a B&M school that would be a great fit for both of them.

I feel the same way about DD fitting in at school better than her brother. Girls (in general) tend to fit in better, but that doesn't mean the school is a better fit for them. I hope to pull DD out of her school in the next year. Not because she doesn't appear to fit in (because she does, sort of), but because she could do so much better in a different environment.

FTR, the only time I was in the same school as my sisters was my last two years of high school, when we moved to an area that only had a single K-12 school. Before that I was in completely different schools from them. I'm sure it was a PITA for our parents, but they made it work.

I considered it. Both boys were terribly upset. Ds7 felt I was denying him his rights as the elder to look after ds5 and ds5 thought it was mean to make him go somewhere by himself. I would seperate them but there would have to be a really good reason.

i think being x's little sister or y's cousin or z's daughter at a school is a nice continuity. If we lived near enough i would send them to the school the past 4 generations of my family attended.

I think dd would definitely also benefit from the private school if she can get in, and I think if she can't get in, we will leave her on their waiting list and she might get in at a later time. I am leaning toward the move for my son. We can always come back to the public school if it doesn't look like we are actually getting more for private school fees.

Yes, 2 schools for us right now. It wasn't a big issue last year but it is kind of hard to get involved in two schools. DS goes to the gifted public ES and DD goes to the regular neighborhood school for now. She is going into 1st grade and this is the year that they do the OLSAT and NNAT to identify them. If she does well, then we can apply to have her go to the same school. She is not academic focused like my son was at the same age but she is definitely clever and curious about the world. I am very curious to see what her scores are.

DS5 is going to a parochial school, mostly due to his think-outside-the-box mentality.

For now, I think we will be sending DD3 to public school. She is more black-and-white, so a less strict environment would be OK.

Three kids, three different private schools...one very arts- language oriented- each child works at their own pace-type school, one parochial, and one IB. I sometimes just want to hit the 'easy' button and send them all to the same place, but I feel I am doing what is best for my children based on how they learn and what their interests are.

My kids were only in the same school for two years...but that is more of a function of the age gap and not our choice. Younger child had been grade skipped once...he would have to skip a few more grades for them to be in high school together.

Wow it looks like a lot of people have kids in different schools. It is looking more and more like we will join you all for next year.

We went to the school open day today, and we were really impressed. DS has not received an official offer for a place, but unless something goes wrong and he can't get in, we will definitely switch schools next year. I am feeling very positive about it! Fingers crossed all the enrolment goes smoothly.
