I agree, this is just too important. It's not just your kid who will be affected either.

Sigh. I just talked to her before I picked up the kids. She said that she looked at their booklets to make sure they completely erased and that they all had at least some erasures showing that the answers were changed. She doesn't think the scores will be affected because for 3rd grade all the booklets are the same.

I asked her if she confirmed what DD said with the sub and she said she didn't even talk to her, just left her a message saying that she was no longer needed.

Ugh. I don't really like the choices I have here! I was hoping she would just report it herself...

That is really horrible Cathy! Even if there is only 1 version, a 3rd grader could be totally influenced by what another student erased out of their book if I'm understanding this correctly. You are in a really tough position. The principal doesn't sound concerned in the least about getting accurate test scores!?

I have no amazing advice, but you have my sympathy! Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

    Cathy,
You should negotiate now with the principle for an alternative assessment for the GATE program if your daughters scores on the affected tests dont meet the required qualifications.

I suggest BCC'ing the principal on a post-dated letter, so that she can see it several days in advance of your mailing and knows that you will be sending the report to the CDE and has her own chance to make a report before they get your letter.

AND ask for alternative measures for the GATE program entrance.

Maybe I'm making a deal with the devil here, but I just can't bring myself to go over her head and report it. I know the result will be a sh!tstorm and I have too many things that I need this principal's goodwill on. Hopefully, it won't affect DD much; DD said that E had her booklet (E is a very bright kid) and that DD only had to change two answers to reflect her own choices.

I hate this. I am a very by-the-book person and it really grates on me.
