    Yes!

I just opened the letter from the district appeals committee. Last week we had the meeting where we appealed the campus appeals committee's decision to deny admission to the GT program. I had posted about it back in March.

Anyway, they reversed!!! I'm so excited. So she'll start getting differentiation in her K class now, which is great, but starting next year she'll be in a self-contained GT class.

Of course one problem is that she may be the only GT identified student in 1st grade, so the rest of the students in her class will be "fillers." It won't help much in terms of finding true peers, but hopefully it will put her with a teacher who can better differentiate the curriculum for her. It's definitely better than not having that opportunity, and we'll just have to see how it works. We still may end up homeschooling or looking at private school in the future, but for now I feel like we've bought ourselves a little more time. At least I hope so, especially because she really does enjoy school.

Anyway, I just wanted to thank everyone again for the encouragement. And I'm so glad I have someone else to share this with other than my DH, my best friend, and my parents!

Dottie: Yeah, I know! Every campus apparently chooses the fillers differently, but most do try to choose kids who were tested for GT and were close.

We'll certainly still have to watch everything and make sure she's being challenged. And I admit that a lot of my excitement is based on feeling vindicated. But I do believe she's in a better position than she would be in a regular classroom, and hopefully the school will be a little more willing to accomodate future requests now that she has their label.

    Thanks everybody!

I know that it's likely not going to be everything we want, but it was such a good feeling to see the X in the reversal column as opposed to the X next to the statement that "no need for GT services is indicated." With 99.9%ile scores, that was hard to accept back in March!

    Excellent job AmyEJ-YOU ROCK!!!!!!!

I'm seeing a lot of advocacy success here lately, seems like we are gaining some steam!!

Not just "For the grandchildren" anymore! More like: For the children and the grandchildren!!!!!!!

I heard from our principal concerning DD5 today. They are taking the recommendations from the gifted psyd. tester and will be doing some alternative things with her til the end of the year to see how things work so hopefully, they can continue some for next year.

    Patient, pleasant, persistant.....

That's great, Neato! I'm so glad to hear your news. I hope those alternative things work out for her for the remainder of the year and give you some hope of better things for the next.

This is certainly a nice way to go into the weekend, isn't it? Have a great one!
