My 8yo will be going into 3rd next year and will need to learn her multiplication facts. She has dyslexia and now I suspect she could have dyscalculia as well. She struggles with memorizing and automaticity so I'm thinking if there was a video or song to help her memorize her tables it might help her. Has anybody heard of anything like this?

Get the Schoolhouse Rock DVD ... it is a god-send.

Not directly on topic, but when my youngest DD was 4 or 5, she informed me that there were 3 sets of 3 in 10 with one left over... and that she knew this because of the song "Ten Little Indians."

The reason I shared this is that this or similar songs might help other perceptual kids to visualize while they are memorizing.

I second Schoolhouse Rocks! Leap Frog's Math Factory might help also...my son loved the Leap Frog reading series...he would run around singing "when two vowels go walking, the first one does the talking!". I'm also a fan of making up my own songs as a mnemonic device. It's how I memorized the Gettysburg Address when I was s kid.

I think you've gotten great suggestions. These links may help as well:

(Apparently this Math Mammoth curriculum has been useful for many children, though I don't own it and haven't used it. I have seen this technique of beginning and ending practice sessions by skip-counting up and down mentioned elsewhere, and in general I like what I've seen of Math Mammoth on youtube and elsewhere when it comes to developing skill proficiency.)

Sorry to hi-jack, but does anyone know of something similar for addition and subtraction?
