Alright here is the IEP. I don't even have to put it in a "nutshell" cuz it is so sparse as it is!!

Objective 1 -- Mite needs to improve his organizational skills of his desk and materials.

****this one is ok. he can be a messy little bug. we are working on that at home, too.****

Objective 2 -- Mite will increase his writing skills from writing incomplete sentences with gragments and run-on sentences, to writing a paragraph independently, that includes the followin....(perfect para info)

****Ok this one really bugs me, because if Mite is allowed to dictate those paragraphs they are PERFECT!! The problem is not that he is unaware of good paragraph techniques. The problem is he cannot WRITE or sustain the information in working memory long enough to put it on paper. It is a NEUROMOTOR problem, not a knowledge of language arts problem. In fact, his verbal dictation falls at above high school level on one of the evaluations.

The sped teacher plans on taking him out and working on a magnetic white board with magnetic words. That's going to be soooooooooooo irritating for this kid who is sooooooo bright.

Objective 3 -- Mite will proofread and self-correct his information with 80% accuracy on 4 out of 5 data taking days.

****well, I'm all for it if he gets to proofread something he has dictated, but his own handwriting is very difficult to read. THat's the WHOLE point. He cannot physically WRITE.

alright...suggestions comments and even rude remarks (as long as they are directed at the educators:^) are all welcome.

    Willa Gayle -
As Charlie Brown says - "Arrrrrrrrggghhh!"

What about all the fancy technolowdgy they we're talking about? Is that out the window?

Are they one ones who evaulated the dictation?
    Did they read the report.

OK - my only advice is to schedual meetings near the close of the school day, so that they have an incentive to agree with you and go home. It looks like you have some more meetings to go through. Where is the classroom teacher in all this? If you can get him/her on track the rest may be less important.

Actually Objective 2 isn't so badly written, it just seems like they aren't planning to exacute it well. Yes, you want him writing complete paragraphs with assistive technology.

I hope this helps. I would check with local learnig disability groups and see if they can help you sort this out.

The classroom teacher has breast cancer and is out of the picture until October. I'm worried for her and for the stability of Mite's classroom.

"They" are one and the same with the evaluators. The problem is what they say to me on one-on-one they won't stand by when they get in the group. So, now I know to either make them write it down or just ignore what they say to me privately. I think what they say privately is what the believe, but the rest of the time they are covering their patooteys.

They always want the meetings in the a.m. I've tried to get later ones but they really bulk.

I'm going to post more on the new neuropsych eval. we got the results of yesterday.

Thanks ya'll you are such a lovely bunch and sooooooo helpful to me.
