I got this through our state gifted advocacy group about the proposal to eliminate Javits funding:

H. R. 1891 will eliminate the sole federal program focused on meeting the needs of gifted students. The Javits supports the National Research Center for the Gifted and Talented and research grants in gifted education. The Javits funding has always focused on gifted children from low income families as well as from disadvantaged backgrounds. Eliminating the authorizing language for the Javits sends a strong message that gifted children are not important, including those from low income and disadvantaged backgrounds. In a time in which gifted children offer hope in a period of economic downturn and global competition, ensuring the bright future of gifted children needs to be a top priority.
