I need some help, and found this group on a google search.

I have 3 boys, 2 are school age. One is in the 4th grade and is the "Challenge" program at our school. My other school age child is in 1st grade, he is my "problem".

He is currently reading at a 4th grade level, and just recently took MAP testing at school. Took just the reading portion in the Fall, and earned scores of 198. Took reading and math in the Spring, with scores of 206, and 192 respectively.

His teacher didn't provide any kind of "print out" for me to see his scores or compare him nationally. If I hadn't asked for his scores I probably wouldn't have gotten them.

Kids in our school system don't enter the "Challenge" program until 3rd grade and MAP testing isn't normally done until 2nd grade.

We have a special school that I can have him early tested to get into in the Fall if I so chose, but I'm not sure what his numbers mean. No one can seem to give me a straight answer, because "we normally don't MAP test 1st graders".

He is so bored at school, that I would love for him to enjoy it a little more. He doesn't act out, or misbehave, but I'm not sure how much he really likes it because all I've heard all year is is 1st grade ever going to get harder?

He has completed all 6 "required" reading books for the 1st grade and is started in on the 2nd grade books. So I'm not sure what he will do next year.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated,
    Sheri

His fall map reading of 198 is 99% for 1st grade and 91% for second

His spring MAP score reading 206 is 99% for 1st grade and 90% for second. His math of 192 is 90% for first grade.

My dd is also in 1st grade. starting this year they have been testing kinder and first on the primary MAP.

You can find the MAP Rit scoe in this link http://pickens.it.schoolfusion.us/module...8ebc39c6e6bc9c3

I don't know if you had trouble opening the link like I did, so I reposted it.

It's also worth noting that the 206 spring reading is at the 90% for 2nd grade. You can see that on page 132.
