My DD12 was Deryn Sharp from a book series she enjoyed. With a leather aviator's cap, goggles, and being a female, most people assumed she was Amelia Earhart. By the halfway point of the night DD stopped trying to explain who she was and just said "Yep, Amelia Earhart."
Similar thing happened when she was Katniss Everdeen a couple of years before the movie came out. "Yep, I'm an archer/female Robin Hood."
At least when she was Abe Lincoln, most everyone knew who she was (the surprise then was being a girl under the beard and tall hat).
